10 Skincare Mistakes You Might Be Making (And How to Fix Them)

Healthy, glowing skin doesn’t always come from expensive products—it starts with good skincare habits. Whether you’re a beginner or a beauty lover, you might be making some common skincare mistakes without even realizing it. Let’s uncover the top 10 mistakes and how you can avoid them!

1. Sleeping With Makeup On

The Problem:

Not cleansing your face — especially after a long day — can lead to clogged pores, breakouts, and dull, tired-looking skin.

The Fix:

Even if you're exhausted, always cleanse.

Try micellar water for a quick swipe that lifts away makeup and grime — no rinsing needed.
πŸ’§ Prefer something richer? Use a cleansing balm — it melts away buildup gently and leaves skin soft.

Pro Tip: Keep a no-rinse cleanser by your bedside for those ultra-lazy nights.

Skin polish at home

Polished skin can enhance a personality magically . You can go for a professional option to get your skin polished or even you can do it at home with the help of ingredients available in your kitchen.

What is Skin Polishing All About?

Skin polishing is nothing but a process of skin exfoliation (face and body) in which the outermost layer of the skin is sloughed off in order to eliminate blemishes and slow down aging. It also includes moisturizing the skin after polishing to ensure a healthy, beautiful glow. A skin polish treatment can be done by using a skin polishing cream or scrub or any other form of skin exfoliator. It makes the skin surface more even to reflect the light better, which turns the skin softer, smoother and shinier.

Benefits Of Skin Polishing At Home

If you know the type of your skin and choose the right skin polishing kit  you can enjoy all skin polishing benefits at home by following some simple and easy procedures. But before jumping into those recipes, lets have a look at the benefits offered by skin polishing:

  • Helps remove the layer of dead skin cells, thereby making the dark, dull and tired-looking skin glow
  • Boosts blood circulation throughout the skin, which promotes collagen production and makes the skin firmer
  • Removes  scars, dark circles wrinkles, etc. to give a flawless skin
  • Improves the texture of the skin and makes it smoother
  • Enhances the skin tone so that the complexion becomes brighter.
  • Makes a safer and cheaper alternative to luxurious spa services

How To Do Skin Polishing At Home

When it comes to undergoing a skin polishing treatment at home, natural kitchen ingredients play a key role. We have listed down a few easy to prepare and simple to follow recipes that can help you get a polished skin in minutes:

  1. Sugar And Honey Polish

The sugar-honey scrub is known to be the best natural way to polish our skin and it is suitable for all skin types. Mix 2 tablespoons of sugar with 2 tablespoons of pure, raw honey and blend them together. If the sugar crystals are too big, wait for a couple of minutes so that they melt partially. When a sticky paste (containing smaller sugar granules) is formed, apply it all over your skin and rub gently. Make sure that you follow a small circular motion while using your finger pads only.

  1. Sea Salt And Olive Oil Skin Polish

Sea salt itself is an excellent exfoliator which, when combined with olive oil, can impart a healthy glow to our skin. Prepare the scrub by combining 2 tablespoons of pure organic olive oil, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and 8-10 drops of lavender essential oil with 4 tablespoons of sea salt and give the whole thing a good mix. Spread it over your damp skin and exfoliate gently while following circular motions with your fingertips.

  1. Baking Soda Skin Polish

Now, this is a one-ingredient skin polish that will easily give you desired results. All you need to do is to take your favorite face wash (for your face only) and body wash (for rest of the body) as per requirements and add baking soda to them in equal quantities. Make thick granular pastes and exfoliate your face and body respectively.

  1. Rice Flour Polish

The micro grains of rice flour are highly effective in removing the layers of dead cells from our skin. You will need 1 tablespoon of rice flour, 1 teaspoon of gram flour, and 1 tablespoon of pure honey to prepare this polish. Mix all the ingredients well and exfoliate your skin with the mixture for at least 5 minutes. Move your fingertips in small circular motions and be as gentle as possible.

  1. Orange Peel Polish

To prepare this polishing scrub, blend 1 tablespoon of raw milk with 2 tablespoons of orange peel powder. It should form a mixture of thin consistency. Spread it all over your skin and massage gently in order to exfoliate. The outcomes are quick and promising.

It is recommended that you polish your skin at least once every month and generously apply a good moisturizer after each session. It will make your skin look bright and healthy in no time.

OLIVE OIL AND BEAUTY CARE

Olive oil is one of the most popular oils used across the globe. This is a versatile oil, as one can use it for cooking, health care, skin care, as well as hair care. Here in this article, we will talk about the benefits and uses of olive oil for skin care. Olive oil is available in few different variants and extra virgin olive oil is regarded as the best. It is a kitchen staple for many. Olive oil contains both omega-6 and omega 9 fatty acids, as well as oleic acid. All these fatty acids are extremely nourishing for skin.  Plus it is rich in anti oxidants, specially vitamin E. Vitamin E has wonderful benefits for  skin. Find out below different ways to use olive oil for skin care.

1. Moisturizes the Skin

Moisturization is must for healthy and soft skin. Natural moisturizers always work best for our skin and olive oil is definitely among one of them.

Olive oil is enriched with healthy fats, such as omega 6, omega 9, oleic acid, etc. that help to moisturize the skin beautifully. Also olive oil helps to seal the moisture in the skin by forming a protective layer on the skin.

Furthermore, olive oil is a source of squalene, which is a natural organic compound and comes with moisturizing properties. Squalene not only adds moisturization to dry skin, but also helps to control sebum production, and prevent oil build up on the skin.

Plus, it also has the ability to form a barrier and inhibit the growth of micro-organisms to keep the skin healthy.

Olive oil is extremely effective in treating eczema and psoriasis. Extremely dry skin can lead to psoriasis, which results in flaking of the skin. The mono unsaturated fatty acids in olive oil help to moisturize the skin and keep the flaking under control.

Vitamin E, with its anti inflammatory properties, helps to reduce the inflammation of the skin, while the anti oxidants in olive oil help to defend cell damage due to psoriasis.

Eczema is a skin condition, that makes the skin rough, itchy, inflamed and even bleed. Olive oil helps to nourish and soften the skin and reduce inflammation caused by eczema.

2. Anti Aging Benefits of Olive Oil for Skin Care

Olive oil has excellent anti aging benefits for our skin. It works in multiple ways to ensure our skin stays youthful and healthy for a long time.

This oil is rich in anti oxidants, that help fighting off the free radicals and keep the skin protected from untimely aging.

Olive oil is a great source of vitamin E as well as vitamin A. Vitamin E has anti oxidant properties and it also helps to replenish the skin with lost moisture. Plus, it lightens skin pigmentation, which is a sign of aging.

Vitamin A has the ability to lighten age spots. It also boosts sebum secretion in the skin and prevent dryness as well as wrinkle formation.

Along with these, olive oil also has several other vitamins, minerals and natural compounds, that help nourishing the skin from within and reverse the affect of aging.

Due to its anti oxidant benefits, olive oil boosts collagen production in the skin and restore skin’s natural elasticity. This also helps in smoothening out lines, wrinkles as well as tightening saggy skin.

Furthermore, olive oil is a source of chlorophyll, which is a photosynthetic compound and can be found in plants. It has wonderful anti aging properties and healing benefits for our skin, that help to treat aging signs.

Olive oil also contains hydroxytyrosol, which help prevent untimely aging. It prevents skin cells degeneration and delays the appearance of signs of aging.

The squalene found in olive oil increases skin elasticity and prevents wrinkles and lines.

3. Rich Source of Vitamin E

Olive oil is a great source of anti oxidants, such as vitamins A and E. It also contains polyphenols, phytosterols and avenasterol, that come with anti oxidant benefits.

Due to the presence of these anti oxidants, olive oil fights off the free radicals as well as external factors, such as such as UV damage, dry wind and chilly weather, etc. to prevent premature aging of the skin.

Olive oil has exfoliating properties as well. When massaged on the skin, it dissolves the excess oil in the pores that has hardened due to the presence of dirt and impurities. This, helps to unblock pores and minimize the chances of breakouts.

We already know that olive oil is a good source of vitamin E. Vitamin E has the ability to maintain the pH balance of the skin.

In order to maintain a healthy skin, it is very important to maintain the pH balance of the skin. This helps to avoid a number of skin problems, including acne and pimples.

Lack of hydration and moisturization force the sebaceous glands to produce more oil, which in turn, makes our skin oily and increases the chance of breakouts.

Olive oil is a natural emollient, which keeps the skin hydrated and moisturized. Thus it prevents the over activity of sebaceous glands and reduces the chances of getting breakouts.

5. Treats Stretch Marks

This is another great benefit of olive oil for skin care. It contains vitamin E, which helps in removing stretch marks. Vitamin E has anti oxidant benefits as well as great moisturization benefits for the skin and moisturization is must to get rid of stretch marks.

Along with providing moisturization, olive oil also helps to prevent moisture loss from the skin. Topical application of olive oil creates a protective barrier on the skin and retains the moisture content.

This prevents dry skin and lessens the chances of stretch marks. Furthermore, olive oil is the source of squalene and triglycerol, which provide hydration to the skin and eliminate the dryness.

Regular olive oil massage boosts blood circulation in the skin tissues. This helps to increase the supply of oxygen and other nutrients to the skin cells to nourish them and make the skin soft, smooth and supple.

The anti oxidants and other nutrients found in olive oil help to heal the damaged skin cells and reduce the appearance of stretch marks over time.

The anti oxidants in the olive oil also help with collagen boosting, that further restores skin elasticity and also helps to lighten the appearance of stretch marks.

When the skin is stretched beyond limit, it results in formation of lines on the affected areas of the skin, that are known as stretch marks.

Olive oil, with its wonderful lubricating properties helps to prevent the appearance of stretch marks, because it moisturizes the skin and let the skin expand without any difficulty, thus minimizing the chance of developing stretch marks.
